Friendship Fracture

"Yes we had been friends
for many years
but that's over
since Merle Haggard came to town"

Joanne said "Bea
could have told me
tickets were going on sale
at the fair grounds
saved me a place in line
called me on that phone
she always carries

"I'd have raced across town
red light or high water
speeding ticket
or rowboat
nothing at all

"But no
she didn't even tell me
she'd got tickets
for all her family
until the show was over
like she didn't want me
to hear Merle I can't figure it any other way"
